Roda JC shows resilience and wins at De Herdgang

Roda JC Kerkrade won 3-2 at De Herdgang. Bas Sibum’s team came back from behind twice. Goals came from Vaclav Sejk, Joey Müller and Lennerd Daneels.

Round 32 was scheduled for Easter Monday this season. Roda JC was allowed to compete against Jong PSV this evening. The Limburgers did not start the game well. After two minutes of play, the team was already behind. Emil Bars, completely free, was able to shoot the ball past Calvin Raatsie. Shortly after the goal, Roda JC got away well when left back Koen Jansen shot a good chance wide.

After a difficult first twenty minutes, Roda JC managed to level the score. A shot by Enrique Peña Zauner was not processed properly by goalkeeper Niek Schiks and the rebound was then alertly tapped in by Vaclav Sejk. However, the tie did not last long. Jevon Simons hit the post with his first attempt, but here too a rebound resulted in a goal.

In the remainder of the match, both teams wanted a penalty, but both Arjen van der Heide and Tygo Land did not get one. Roda JC came alongside again in injury time in the first half. On a pass from Teun Bijleveld, Joey Müller shot the 2-2 against the ropes in a truly beautiful way. Sejk and Van der Heide also attacked the goal in injury time, but were unable to score.

Roda JC started the second half better than the first half. This time there was an immediate chance through Ould-Chikh and Röseler. After a rehearsed corner kick, the midfielder shot from a distance and from close range the German defender tried to score the ball, but his attempt went over the goal. The next attempt came from Lucas Beerten. The Belgian was close to scoring with an excellent volley, but the ball was cleared shortly before the line.

The Limburgers continued in the search for a goal. This time a nice action by Ould-Chikh led to a shot by the midfielder. Unfortunately, goalkeeper Schiks managed to prevent a goal. A few minutes later, Ould-Chikh was the man of the pass. After a quick corner kick, he passed the ball to Müller and the German tried with his heel. Unfortunately the attempt lacked strength.

The chances remained for Bas Sibum’s team. After good work by Müller, Peña Zauner was able to make a lot of meters and ultimately shoot. Unfortunately, his attempt narrowly missed the wrong side of the post. In the last fifteen minutes, Roda JC received help from Jong PSV to start a final offensive. Within five minutes, Conrad Egan-Riley received two yellow cards, meaning the Eindhoven team had to continue with ten men.

In that final offensive, Roda JC found what it was looking for. Sibum’s team took the lead through substitute Lennerd Daneels. The Belgian moved in, shot hard and found the goal in the long corner. In the exciting final phase, both teams made a few more attempts on goal. It was no longer possible to score and that was partly why the Limburgers won when they visited Jong PSV.
