From suspense, adventure, social justice to musical expression and romance, the event brings together films that have achieved international recognition and prestigious awards.
The series will open its doors with the premiere in New York of the feature film Mujer Salvaje, debut feature by Cuban filmmaker Alan González, and will end on the 18th of this month with the special presentation of the documentary Igualada, by Colombian director Juan Mejia Botero.
Among its special programs, the Havana Film Festival will also pay tribute to Cuban film directors Nicolás Guillén Landrián and Tomás Gutierrez Alea.
The exhibitions promise a journey of cinematographic richness that demands attention and questioning of norms, reminding the public of the transformative force of cinema, the contest note advances. “The festival presents narratives that reflect the contemporary times in which we live, often uncomfortable and occasionally uncertain, but that consistently reflect our diverse experiences,” said its artistic director, Diana Vargas.
As Latinos, we are a creative force, seeking to amplify these voices and reaffirm our presence in this city as vital contributors to its cultural tapestry, he further said.
The contest also includes two special meetings open to the public at Hofstra University, on April 10, and a master class the next day through the virtual tool Zoom.
