Garbage Crisis in Dagestan: Consequences of Security Raids on Migrant Workers

Russian Dagestan is becoming surrounded by mountains of garbage after security forces carried out massive raids against migrants.

The first Russian region faced the consequences of repression against migrant workers. A full-fledged garbage collapse has broken out in Dagestan.

Dagestan public pages are filled with footage of mountains of garbage and angry comments, Dialog.UA reports.

After four Tajik followers of ISIS carried out a terrorist attack in the Crocus City Hall near Moscow, persecution of Middle Eastern guest workers began throughout the Russian Federation.

In Dagestan, security forces conducted several raids, during which migrant workers were detained en masse. Some of the foreign workers urgently left the country, fearing reprisals. As a result, the regional waste removal operator was left without a workforce, and the company’s activities were paralyzed.

Problems with garbage arose in Makhachkala, Buinaksk, Dagestanskiye Ogni and other settlements of the republic. The problem is so acute that employees of the Makhachkala City Hall were forced to work as garbage collectors today, April 2.

Commented on the situation in Telegram Russian blogger Anatoly Nesmiyan (El Murid). He stated that the garbage collapse is the result of organized repression against migrants.

All these campaigns, when the authorities imitate the fight against something bad in the form of emergency measures, do not have any practical meaning. Instead of everyday and systematic work, there is frantic tossing and reporting work. That’s why they can’t really do anything about the terrorists, and there’s no one to take out the garbage. All that remains is to kick out the officials for cleanup days“, the expert wrote.

It was previously reported that after Crocus, Tajiks are fleeing the Russian Federation en masse – experts predict an aggravation of the personnel shortage.

We also wrote that opinions on the deportation of citizens of Tajikistan in Russian social networks were divided.
