BORÅS. Johan Larsson is awaiting a contract proposal from IF Elfsborg.
Otherwise, the 33-year-old ends his career after the season.
– It will be Elfsborg or nothing at all, he says to FotbollDirekt.
Per Frick, 31, has extended with IF Elfsborg beyond 2026, but there is still a profile in the Borås club whose contract is expiring.
Johan Larsson, 33, enters his fifth season in the yellow shirt since his return in 2020. The team captain tells FotbollDirekt that discussions have begun regarding his contract, which expires at the turn of the year.
– We’ve been talking. We’ll see what happens, but I’d love to keep playing football and feel that I’m still passionate about it and think it’s the most fun there is. I love being part of this, so we’ll see what Stefan (Andreasson, club manager) says, begins Johan Larsson.
Is it only Elfsborg that applies in that case?
– Yes it is. For one thing, I don’t want to be anywhere else and I think that Elfsborg wants me to be here. I can’t bear to start a new project with two kids and a wife. I’m done with it, so it will be Elfsborg or nothing at all.
And there seem to be more than IF Elfsborg and Johan Larsson who want to see a longer collaboration.
Niklas Hult about his full-back colleague:
– I want him to extend. I think that we in the back line did very well last year and I don’t see anything that will make it worse this year. He is our captain and it is clear that it is very important that he also extends, says Hult.
But the dialogue with the club has not reached a concrete stage yet, says Johan Larsson.
– Me and Stefan are like friends, so there won’t be the tough negotiations. I’ll go up myself and then we’ll talk and see what we can do. We’ll take it from there, but we don’t have anything on the table yet.
Don’t feel like getting it done before the season starts?
– That would have been great! He (Andreasson) has a few days left, laughs Larsson.
