New research advises against vaping near children: “Link with cancer”

A new study from Emory University in Georgia shows that vaping around children is a bad idea. The fumes released would, among other things, cause an increased risk of cancer.

Researchers compared the health of children between four and twelve years old whose parents vape daily with that of peers whose parents do not use electronic cigarettes. To detect differences and better assess the risks of passive smoking, blood was taken from each child. The scientists also analyzed the saliva of the little ones to get an idea of the consequences.

What seems? The children of vaping parents had higher levels of metabolites linked to dopamine disruption, oxidative stress and inflammation. These can lead to cellular damage, which is linked to the development of diseases such as diabetes, heart disease and cancer.

In many cases, parents are unaware of the dangers associated with floating fumes. More than half (11 out of 19) did not know that using electronic cigarettes posed a health risk to children. “Many people who have given up cigarettes have switched to e-cigarettes. They think this is safer for them and others around them,” said Jeannie Rodriguez, lead author of the study. “However, the vapors contain chemicals that are dangerous to the user and their loved ones, who may still (unintentionally) ingest the exhaled vapors.”
