Pos: With card in taxis, kiosks, public from Monday – Heavy fines – 2024-04-02 14:35:11

Card payments via POS should be accepted from Monday, April 1st by tens of thousands of businesses and freelancers who join the list of 35 new branches where the mandatory use of card payment terminals has been extended. The measure affects 110,000 businesses and professionals from taxis and street market vendors to kiosks, insurance and advertising companies, theaters and cinemas.

Professionals who do not have a POS will be faced with a fine of 1,500 euros, while those who are obliged to connect the terminal to the cash register have a deadline to complete the process within the schedule that has been set, i.e. until March 31, 2024 or until April 30. anyone who does not comply will be fined 1,500 euros.

The €1,500 fine is halved if:

The debtor shall pay the fine within 30 days from the date of notification of the relevant act and in any case before the exercise of the internal appeal. This payment entails the automatic waiver of the debtor from any right to challenge or challenge the act of imposing a fine.
The obligee, within 30 days from the date of filing a complaint or carrying out an audit, submits to the competent audit service a document proving the use of a terminal accepting payment cards, means of payment by card and means of payment with direct payment services from account to account.

Business account

For not declaring a business account on the AADE website, a fine of 1,000 euros is imposed on the debtors. For the submission of a professional account statement on the AADE website beyond the deadlines, an administrative fine of 100 euros is imposed on the debtors.

Cash register – POS interface
On the front of the interconnection of the cash registers with the POS as mentioned by the press representative of the Ministry of National Economy and Finance, Omiros Tsapalos (Parapolitika 90.1), “so far 135 thousand interconnections have been completed throughout Greece, in fact we have passed the halfway point if let’s think that the total number of connections we expect until the end of April is around 250 thousand”. Regarding the fees for POS transactions, Omiros Tsapalos said: “We are in discussions with both the banks and the POS companies in order to come to the conclusion that even for small transactions of up to 10 euros, there will be reduced fees compared to those that exist today. The second provision is that we have introduced the IRIS system which is a direct payment system with no commission for the customer and extremely lower commission for the entrepreneur. If he adopts the IRIS system the entrepreneur will see up to 50% cheaper commissions compared to what he now bears in a POS transaction.”
