Stones on an industrial area in South Tyrol, no injuries

(ANSA) – BOLZANO, 01 APR – During the last few hours, due to the heavy rainfall that hit Alto Adige, 150 interventions were carried out by the volunteer firefighters due to landslides, mudslides, trees fallen on the roads, problems of flooding of underground floors, flooded roads and underpasses. In Ora a volley of stones ended up in a carpentry shop in the artisan area of the town. Fortunately no one was injured, however for safety reasons some houses and businesses in the area were evacuated. In Trentino, however, the wave of bad weather announced last Saturday with the issuing of an ordinary (“yellow”) alert by the Trentino Civil Protection produced its main effects on Easter Monday morning. In Verdesina, a hamlet in the municipality of Porte di Rendena, a landslide of mud and debris coming from the slope overlooking the town involved two houses, which were evacuated. The most significant phenomenon in terms of volume – several thousand cubic meters of debris – hit the Cà Rossa area, in the Municipality of Storo, where heavy rains caused the Rio Bianco to flood and triggered a debris flow that affected the riverbed just downstream from the locality of Phaserno, at around 1,400 meters above sea level, dragging with it debris of various sizes, from clay to boulders larger than one cubic metre. The torrential lava broke against the “filter barrier” created in 2017 by the Montani Basin Service at the apex of the ejection cone (approximately 500 m altitude). The “storage area” located behind the dam retained approximately four thousand cubic meters of material (the equivalent of the material that can be transported by 400 trucks) and prevented the debris from pouring entirely onto the alluvial fan.
