Iran’s consulate and the Iranian ambassador’s residence in Damascus were targeted by Israel at noon on Monday, April 1, according to local media.
According to the same sources, the Iranian ambassador was not injured by the airstrike, while Iran’s Arabic-language Al Alam TV reports that the building of the Iranian consulate in Syria was destroyed.
Syrian air defense intercepted “enemy targets” on the outskirts of Damascus, the Syrian state news agency reported. A little earlier, SANA spoke of an “explosion” heard near Damascus.

Meanwhile, Saudi Arabia’s news network, citing Iranian media, reports that senior Revolutionary Guard official Mohammad Reza Zahedi was killed in the Israeli strike in Damascus, bringing the death toll to eight.
Zahedi had been in Syria for several years and essentially mediated between Syrians and members of Hezbollah.
According to Al Arabiya, there was a meeting between the Revolutionary Guards and members of Islamic Jihad at the time of the attack and if it is confirmed that the strike was targeted, it could further inflame the Middle East.
