Rowling has again published a series of messages on the messaging service X in which she calls transwomen men. Sky News says Rowling X is challenging Scotland’s new hate crime law with her posts.
Already last October, when the law was being drafted, Rowling said she would be happy to go to jail for views deemed transphobic.
The law that has now come into force is intended to prevent damage caused by hatred and prejudice. The protection provided by the law against harmful behavior has been extended to include age, disabilities, religion, sexual orientation and transgender identity.
Rowling is worried, among other things, about freedom of speech and religion if the exact definition of biological sex becomes illegal.
– I am currently out of the country. If what I have written here is a crime under the new law, I expect to be arrested when I return to Scotland, Rowling wrote.

Rowling’s opinions regarding transactions have garnered criticism. The first time he addressed the issue was already in 2019, when he tweeted his support for a British researcher who lost his job after he wrote transphobic comments.
Trans activists have been disappointed by Rowling’s statements. Also the star trio of the Harry Potter films Daniel Radcliffe, Emma Watson and Rupert Grint have publicly criticized Rowling’s comments and defended the trans community.
Rowling has never backed down from what she said.
