The ban on the practice of professional and amateur fishing in Lake Kerkini from the morning of Monday, April 1 at 08:00 am. until May 20, 2024 announced the Regional Unit of Serres by decision of the Deputy Regional Governor Panagiotis Spyropoulos.
The ban on the practice of professional and amateur fishing of fish and other aquatic organisms, with any means and tools, was decided to protect their reproduction in Lake Kerkini, in lake formations and in all flowing waters such as rivers, streams, canals, etc. Pi. which end directly in the lakes and at a distance of 1,000 (one thousand) meters from the point of their discharge into them (this distance is measured along the bed of the above).
According to the announcement, it is the owners’ personal responsibility and responsibility to remove all fishing boats from Lake Kerkini, after first removing their equipment (fishing gear, engine, oars, etc.), and to gather them in dry at predetermined locations.
In derogation of this decision, sampling for research purposes is allowed by the competent Services, Research Institutions or Universities, after the consent of the Fisheries Department of the P.E. Serres, in accordance with the provisions on the protection of wild fauna and flora. The Police Authorities and the Forestry Services in their areas of competence are responsible for the observance and implementation of this decision, while it is pointed out that the offenders are prosecuted in accordance with the applicable legislation.
