The child had disappeared on his balance bike near the Amselsee near Rathen around 1 p.m. – apparently the little one had ridden ahead and turned off in an unobserved moment. After 20 minutes of searching on their own, the parents called the police.
A large-scale search began in the wooded and sometimes impassable area. A helicopter, drones, national park rangers and sniffer dogs were also used. At around 10 p.m., parents and helpers could finally breathe a sigh of relief: emergency services discovered the five-year-old and his balance bike around a kilometer from where he disappeared.
