Understanding Colon Cancer: Symptoms, Risks, and Early Detection

Jakarta,- Gastroenterologist specialist, Professor Ari Fahrial Syam, said that colon cancer or colorectal cancer is a health problem in the form of the growth of cancer cells in the large intestine.

Colon cancer usually begins with the appearance of polyps or benign tumors in the digestive organ.

According to him, colon cancer usually does not cause early symptoms, so many sufferers are late and only realize they have this disease when the cancer cells have spread. Most sufferers, he said, do not realize that they have colon cancer.

“Even though I was already experiencing symptoms that led to it, such as bloody stools and changes in the shape and color of the stool (black because there was bleeding). “The average will only be known after further examination and the stage is already high,” he said in a conversation with RRI Pro3, Sunday (31/3/2024).

Other symptoms that lead to colon cancer, said Ari, are flatulence and cramps, diarrhea or constipation, drastic weight loss for no apparent reason. As well as irregular menstrual cycles and excessive menstrual pain, and anemia.

According to him, the risk of death from colon cancer is very high. This is caused by late treatment due to weak early detection.
