Doctors prescribe antibiotics from today only with an electronic prescription. However, the paper prescriptions issued so far are valid for 30 days and can be filled in pharmacies, BNR reported.
The elimination of the paper prescription for antibiotics comes amid concerns from emergency physicians that paramedics and physician assistants cannot write electronic prescriptions because they are not specifically mentioned in the regulation.
Last week, the chairman of the Pharmaceutical Union, Dimitar Marinov, presented data according to which 38 of these professionals issue electronic prescriptions. As for pharmacies, according to him, they fill such prescriptions as long as the prescribed medicine is available.
“The only thing the patient needs to know when he has an e-prescription is when he was examined. In order to be able to find it quickly, the EGN will look it up from the identity card,” Marinov clarified.
The association of medical facilities from specialized outpatient care called for exceptions to be introduced in which to write a paper prescription for antibiotics. There should be and thought about these exceptions, so as not to go to extremes and make fatal mistakes, they warned.
The 15-day extended ban on the export of insulin drugs and antibiotics for children comes into force today. It will operate until mid-April.
