The US Secretary of State, Antony Blinken, condemned this Saturday the “terrorist attack” against a concert hall near Moscow, in which armed assailants killed more than 115 people on Friday night.
“We stand in solidarity with the people of Russia who mourn the loss of life after this horrible event,” the diplomat wrote on his platform X account.
Hours after the attack, White House Security Council spokesperson Adrienne Watson said that the US had alerted the Russian government to the possibility of a “terrorist attack.”
On March 7, the State Department issued an alert reporting that the US embassy in Russia was “monitoring reports” of an extremist group’s “imminent plans” to attack “large conglomerations in Moscow.”
“US citizens are advised to avoid large groups of people in the next 48 hours,” the statement said.
At least 115 people were killed, according to Russian authorities, after armed assailants opened fire on hundreds of people at a concert hall in a shopping center on the outskirts of the Russian capital last night.
The attackers set the center on fire with explosives, causing many victims to die of asphyxiation.
The jihadist organization Islamic State has claimed responsibility for the attack on its social media channels. EFE
