Deputy Sofía Brambilla highlights urgent issues in rural production and public health in interview with La Otra Campana

The national representative for Corrientes, Sofía Brambilla, interviewed by La Otra Campana, the classic radio program that is broadcast every Sunday on LT7 Radio Corrientes and LT25 Radio Guaraní hosted by Gustavo Ojeda, highlighted the duty to move forward with addressing issues related to rural production.
He pointed out that an urgent pending issue is the reduction of the cost of the foot-and-mouth vaccine, which in Argentina costs four times more than in countries in the region, despite being a country that produces this medicine.
He stressed that another pending issue is the improvement of roads and energy access for producers, and proposed measures to reduce costs and improve the competitiveness of the agricultural sector. This is how part of the dialogue developed.
Let’s talk to Deputy Brambilla. Good morning.
-Good morning Gustavo.
His political activity is really interesting but there is an issue that I know he was working on a lot, the issue of vaccines, the issue of dengue… The issue of public health.
-Since November they had already warned me how the disease was going to happen, not only in our area, but how it is attacking the Center of the country in the province of Buenos Aires, in the city of Buenos Aires. That is why with the team and after consulting with health specialists in the province of Corrientes, about the effectiveness of this vaccine that is applied in two doses, we decided to present the project to incorporate it into the national vaccination calendar. There is an obviously economic situation, in which one says asking the national State to buy vaccines for the 45 million Argentines, today when we are talking about reducing spending, it sounded a bit exaggerated for some. But I believe that we are noticing how the health system is also affected, in addition to the quality of life of Argentines and citizens who suffer from the disease when they suffer from it, that many end up hospitalized and requiring the health system, with which If we do not soon think of a strategy to acquire vaccines, we are also going to collapse the health system.
Many vaccines mean a lot of money to invest, both for the State and for the citizen who is not lucky enough to have social security or a stable job.
-Of course, today we are talking about a family group, if in January the vaccine was 65 thousand pesos per dose and there are two. Suppose that today it is 140 thousand pesos, imagine yourself in a group of 4 or 5 members, it is impossible to acquire it. The Government of the Province is taking care of it, I understand that the Governor is in charge of managing the vaccines, let’s think that the majority of Argentines live in poverty and do not have social work. I think that the best thing in this context that we are experiencing is to get vaccinated, but I understand that the national State has to intervene helping Argentines to be able to do so. And also for a matter, as I say, of economic efficiency. What is not invested in vaccines, unfortunately we will see it in the health system later. Let’s go for that project and insist in the Chamber now that the ordinary sessions have begun, because during the extraordinary sessions, we could not discuss it.

“The dose in Argentina has a very high price”

Health, in terms of production, is another urgent issue.
-As for rural health, I am part of the Agriculture, Livestock and Fisheries Commission that has not yet been formed, and I hope that next week or the next after Easter the commission will be formed, which I have been coming for 6 years. participating, which of course is an agenda item for our province and a priority for the producers and the economy of Corrientes. I am talking about the problem that exists with the cost of the foot-and-mouth vaccine, which is an obligation to do so, and talking with a fellow deputy from La Pampa, I supported the project that he presented to be able to open the importation of vaccines against foot-and-mouth disease, because the cost It is noticeably lower abroad than in Argentina. So, when in neighboring countries such as Uruguay, Paraguay, Brazil or Chile, they are paying 0.50 dollars, in Argentina our producers are paying 2 dollars. Although there is an explanation by Senasa that they are more knowledgeable than those in neighboring countries, this vaccine is being produced in our country, the truth is that the cost is very high and I believe that something more can be done to lower the cost for our producers.
Our rural producers also need their roads fixed, energy issues… The Nation also has to take action on the matter because they are national routes.
-For this reason, there are works that cannot be interrupted, not to mention the enormous problem with National Route No. 14. The poor condition it is in is tremendous. We have already presented projects declaring a road emergency on that route. I have also spoken about it with the national and regional Road Manager, with Flores at the time. Today, traffic accidents are the main cause of death in Argentina and we are not aware of that. I am not going to get tired of demanding it from the Nation because there is a responsibility and investment that we cannot make here in Corrientes, nor does it correspond. I understand what the Milei Government is proposing to adjust spending, but we cannot stop breathing because of that. We must see, investigate and punish all the acts of corruption that the Government is discovering and that in good time it will do so and punish those responsible for stealing the Argentines’ money, but there are works that must be done. The Governor is behind that, I in Congress with the other legislators from Corrientes also work for that.

Activate priority works

What other things are on the Deputy’s agenda?
-Just with the team we were talking about resuming, because we tried to do it in January and because of the changes in the national government… I am very concerned about the Route 12 highway. It is not an issue that concerns me as a legislator, but I feel the duty to help so that this work finally comes to fruition for the good of the people of Corrientes. So we are once again submitting a request for a report to the national government, I understand that a person in charge or administrator of National Roads has already been appointed, but we need the Government to take action as soon as possible. So we are going to be entering that project tomorrow and of course at the same time, I ask for an audience with the people in charge in Buenos Aires. Let’s see if this Government receives me, because with the previous one I was not successful with Katopodis and the administrator Arrieta and the National Roads team who left us abandoned for many months. Let’s hope we don’t suffer the same fate with this Government. I understand that there is a huge and necessary cost cut, but there are priorities that cannot be left undone and works, like this one on Highway 12.
There is also the challenge of the Provincial Government, that if the national Government cannot authorize the provincial coffers to take charge of the work.
-I value the effort that the Province can make, but it seems extremely unfair to me because it is a work that had the money, that had been allocated and that we deserve that the Nation delivers this to the Province of Corrientes. We must exhaust all avenues for this Government to respond to us.
