Mexican authorities detain 50 Cuban migrants in Oaxaca – 2024-03-31 21:45:28

The Attorney General’s Office of the State of Oaxaca, in Mexico, reported that 50 migrants of Cuban origin were detained after being rescued during an operation against human trafficking.

According to the information, this operation took place last Monday, March 25, in the port of Salina Cruz, located in the Isthmus of Tehuantepec region. The Cubans were in a vulnerable situation, as they were crowded inside a home.

These actions, carried out between the Secretary of the Navy, State Police and Municipal Police, were possible after an exhaustive investigation that made it possible to locate a home in Bahías La Ventosa used by human traffickers.

In addition to the Cubans, there were 35 other people of different nationalities (30 from Ecuador and 5 from the Dominican Republic) inside the house, none of whom could prove legal entry into Aztec territory.

The 85 undocumented immigrants were placed in the custody of the Oaxaca Prosecutor’s Office to begin the pertinent procedures regarding their immigration status.

While no further details were shared in this regard, it can be assumed that the Cubans were on their way to the country’s northern border to try to enter the United States.

Similar cases in the past suggest that this group of migrants was waiting for the so-called “coyotes” to move them to the border, something for which they had to remain in overcrowded conditions for an indeterminate period of time.

At the end of January, a similar case was reported in which About twenty Cubans were discovered by Mexican authorities in the municipality of Tultepec, in the State of Mexico.this after an anonymous call alerting about possible illegal activities on the property.

The operation was carried out jointly by agents from the Prosecutor’s Office, the municipal police and the National Guard.

In addition to the undocumented migrants, who were locked in the house, the authorities also found several narcotics wrappers inside. These were confiscated by the Federal Public Ministry.
