Jakarta (ANTARA) – The Ministry of Health (Kemenkes) detected that the rate of Dengue cases in Indonesia until March 2024 had increased almost three times the number of cases in the same period in 2023.
“Update for the 12th week of 2024, the number of cases reached 43,271 and deaths 343 people,” said the Director of Infectious Disease Prevention and Control (P2PM) of the Ministry of Health, Imran Pambudi, confirmed in Jakarta, Sunday.
In March, he continued, there was an increase in the number of cases, around 4,809 more than the reports that appeared the previous week. Meanwhile, the reported case rate in March 2023 reached 17,434 cases with a death toll of 144 people.
Separately, Head of the Professional Development Division of the Association of Indonesian Epidemiologists (PAEI) Masdalina Pane said that the current trend of increasing Dengue cases needs to be addressed with mitigation efforts from various related parties.

“Actually, an increase in Dengue cases has occurred since November 2023 in several areas. But it seems like we are not serious about controlling it, so the area is expanding and cases continue to increase,” he said.
Even though the trend of Dengue cases will resolve itself when the reproductive cycle of the Aedes aegypti mosquito returns to normal, said Masdalina, this does not mean that the current situation will be allowed to happen, triggering a large number of victims.
“The main indicator for controlling an outbreak is that cases do not increase and do not spread. If cases and deaths continue to increase, that means we have failed to carry out control with quite a few victims,” he said.
Masdalina also asked regional governments (Pemda) to focus on Dengue incidents in each region, even in the midst of busy preparations for the Pilkada.

“Don’t let society bear the consequences, because of collective mistakes from the ability to detect early to respond to this incident,” he said.
Minister of Health (Menkes) Budi Gunadi Sadikin after attending an iftar at the Presidential Palace in Jakarta, Thursday (28/3), said that his party had facilitated requests for larvicides and insecticides for dengue prevention needs, which are now experiencing an increasing trend.
“We have prepared larvicide to kill the larvae, we have prepared insecticide if we want to kill the larvae.fogging,” he said.
On that occasion, Minister of Health Budi reminded the public to complete Dengue prevention with methods of eradicating mosquito nests, at least by draining standing water.
Apart from that, the most important thing is to do something immediately when you find a resident with symptoms rapid test or taken to the nearest health center or hospital.
