SpecialEffect Organization Wins Prestigious BAFTA Special Award at 2022 Games Awards Ceremony

The BAFTA Games Awards are held in mid-April, which means many of the games industry’s best and brightest will be flocking to London in the hope of winning an award and being recognized for their efforts over the past year. While we expect Baldur’s Gate III to likely win many of the categories, as it has in many other award shows, there is one award that Larian’s game is missing out on, the BAFTA Special Award.

This year this award goes to the wonderful people who run the charity SpecialEffect. This organization helps people with disabilities enjoy gaming and creative self-expression, and over the years since the organization was founded, SpecialEffect has helped countless people in need experience the brilliance of gaming by supporting them financially, providing a -one-on-one assessments and help develop specialized technology.

To mark the many years SpecialEffect has helped people in need, BAFTA will present the BAFTA Special Award to the organisation’s founder and chief executive Dr Mick Donegan MBE at the ceremony. Donegan had the following to say about being selected for this prestigious award:

“I started SpecialEffect not only to help people play computer games, but also to work with the game industry to make their games more accessible ‘at the source’. Since then, we’ve been privileged to be invited to share our ideas with more and more developers around the world. Now, 17 years after SpecialEffect started, it is a great honor for SpecialEffect’s work to be recognized by BAFTA.”

The BAFTA Games Awards will be held on Thursday 11 April and you can see who will be presenting the show her.
