Indonesian Health Volunteers Urge West Jakarta Government to Combat Rising Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever Cases

Jakarta (ANTARA) – Indonesian Health Volunteers (Rekan) asked the West Jakarta City Government to increase efforts to overcome Dengue Hemorrhagic Fever (DHF) in the area.

“DHF cases are increasing, recorded until March 26 2024, in West Jakarta with the number of cases reaching 716 cases and the highest in DKI Jakarta,” said West Jakarta (Jakbar) Indonesian Colleague Chairman Hendra in a written statement in Jakarta, Sunday.

He suggested that the mayor need to immediately coordinate all levels, including government and welfare assistants, general administration assistants, heads of the Health Sub-department and their staff, sub-district heads and village heads to move together to tackle the high number of dengue fever.

Hendra revealed that one of the factors causing the high number of dengue fever in West Jakarta is that many luxury housing complexes and elite offices have not been touched to be checked for mosquito larvae.

According to him, the potential for larvae in luxury housing is quite large. Residents in these housing complexes generally have flower vases in their area, aquariums, dispensers, fish ponds and swimming pools.

Hendra said that the difficulty is that permits are strict and people tend to refuse to be checked for mosquito larvae, so the role of the mayor is needed so that luxury housing and elite offices can be checked for mosquito larvae.

“The mayor must be pro-active, not passive, breakthroughs are needed in perfecting PSN in West Jakarta,” he said.

Hendra reminded the mayor of West Jakarta to issue an appeal to residents in luxury housing and elite offices to become independent jumantik.
