THE GIANNES DROWNED OUT OF THE WORLD
The few hours of rain did not spoil the celebration that was planned for the evening of Halloween Sunday.
Thousands of people flooded the streets of our city and a celebration that lasted for hours, around the Jamales but also in places such as the historic center of Ioannina, started early in the evening and lasted until the early hours of the morning.
At the Town Hall, the Jamala of the Labor Center of Ioannina, in Lakommata and from there to the Castle, Averof Street was full of people, suffocating in some places like Kalari Street.
Halloween in Ioannina has nothing to envy from cities known for this celebration.
The custom comes from the distant past with special symbolism. It is a ritual of purification, based on the belief that fire has the power to drive away evil. Over time and depending on the conditions and demands of each era, it has its own symbolism.
During the Turkish occupation, the Gianniotes received a special permit from the city administration to perform the custom and the dance around the fire brought out the desire of the enslaved for freedom.
Carnival Goats
The Goat Carnival had everything.. Fun, dozens of groups of young and old and crowds..
Bigger than ever, with topical issues but also nostalgic moments reviving..
Cultural clubs, schools, schools and carnival groups with original costumes sang and danced, seducing everyone to their rhythms.
The main street was transformed into an outdoor Halloween party which was enjoyed by all.
With the completion of the carnival, the celebration in Katsikas continued as the jamala was lit early in the square.
The protagonist of the events is the Katsika Cultural Association with the assistance of the Municipality of Ioannito.
Coulouma
In Litharitsia, the Municipality of Ioanniton celebrated Koulouma again this year.
In anticipation of the restoration and promotion of the natural space of this celebration for Ioannina, the Pyrsinella Park, and while the works in the park have begun and are progressing, the Municipality of Ioannito hosted in Litharitsia, in the Park located in the center of the city, the event for the Clean Monday, offering the citizens who were there the traditional food and goodies for the day – bean salad, lagana, halva, olives, pickles and plenty of wine.
From Litharitsia, the Mayor of Ioannina, Thomas Begas, sent his best wishes to everyone while emphasizing that the city is also a destination for Halloween.
“The city was flooded with people and we need the mood of joy and fun in the difficult environment we live in. It was a nice three days for both the people of Gianni and for our visitors. The tourist destination has been methodically built for years and for the days of the Carnival with the custom of the jamala that stands out” he emphasized in his statements.
