Jakarta – Masjid Mamluki Lancet or Mamluki Lancet Mosque in Kuwait City, Kuwait has a different design from the others. The roof of this mosque is made to look like it is rotating with a half dome on top. Mamluki Lancet Mosque in Kuwait Photo: Mohammed Alsaad and Nasser Alomairi via Dezeen
The mosque was built by Babnimnim studio which combines classic Islamic motifs with contemporary forms. This mosque is also equipped with a 39 meter high minaret.
“It harmoniously combines traditional elements with modern interpretations, offering a spiritual sanctuary that resonates with the congregation and local community,” said Studio Bibnimnim, quoted from Dezeen, Saturday (30/3/2024).
The exterior is designed to reflect the contemporary architecture of the newly built neighborhood, as well as more traditional Islamic motifs. The half dome functions as a skylight that allows lots of sunlight to enter the room, while a large arched door welcomes worshipers into the space.
The mosque makes extensive use of arches to decorate the facade, frame windows, and structural elements as a tribute to the classic aesthetic of the Mamluki Mosque. At the front of the mosque, the entrance to the main hall is made of magnificent wood that reflects the shape of the half dome at the top of the building.
The studio uses stone veneer and clay stucco to create a subtle yet authentic image, a “reinterpretation of the Mamluki classical era.” The color palette features cool grays and whites complemented by subtle brass accents, Koranic calligraphy carvings, and metalwork.

Inside the mosque, Thuluth-style verses from the Koran adorn the walls, with natural light streaming in through gaps between the rotating volumes. The main prayer room of this mosque has a capacity of 600 people, including a smaller women’s prayer area.
