The Gard gendarmes, supported by the GIGN, carried out a large-scale operation this Thursday evening in the Alès basin. They questioned nine people, suspected of drug trafficking. Information revealed by our colleagues at Midi Libre that we are able to confirm. “This is the result of almost two years of investigation” specifies General Eric Chuberre, commander of the Gard gendarmerie group.
One million euros of market value
The GIGN first arrested two motorists from Gard on the A9 who were returning from Spain with 16 kilos of cocaine. In the process, seven people were arrested in Lézan, Ners, Anduze and Bagard. The searches led to the discovery of cannabis, ecstasy and even amphetamines in their homes. The total market value is estimated at one million euros.
Five weapons seized
The gendarmes also got their hands on five weapons, including a shotgun and a submachine gun. More than 15,000 euros in cash were seized as well as 500 cartons of cigarettes. The nine suspects were indicted for drug trafficking, money laundering and failure to provide proof of resources. Six men were incarcerated and three women placed under judicial supervision.
