The municipal council of the city of Alytus adopted a new version of the rules of order and cleanliness. According to it, it is prohibited to park commercial cars on city streets (city common areas), in parking lots near apartment buildings.
This category includes cargo minibuses and passenger minibuses, if they have more than eight seats, semi-trailers and trailers. If such machines interfere with street maintenance, they can be towed. The decision was made by the politicians of Alytus, because such cars take up more space than cars in apartment lots. Such machines should be built on private or company sites.
“First of all, these are minibuses for transporting passengers, which have 9 seats, commercial vehicles. For example, the popular cargo car up to 3.5 tons gross weight “VW Transporter” will not be able to park in yards. It falls into the N1 category and cannot be stored in apartment yards and public roads. It does not matter that such a car is used as an everyday vehicle. Especially since there are cases when multi-apartment sites are equipped with partial financing by associations and the Alytus city municipality, and these machines take up more space. Part of the population is angry about this. We did not punish drivers for two months, we wanted to introduce the new procedure, but the situation did not change and we started punishing such violators from this year. We have already drawn up two protocols of administrative violations”, said Rytis Vitkauskas, head of the Public Order Department of the Alytus City Municipality Administration, about the new provisions of the rules of order and cleanliness.
The purpose of the new order is to remove larger cars from apartment yards and city streets so that citizens returning from work do not face parking problems. There is no intention to punish during the day, because such minibuses are often used by construction workers, service transport or people returning for lunch.
The employees of the Public Order Department of the Alytus City Municipality, who distributed warnings for two months, saw that not all owners of such vehicles follow the new procedure in good faith. After the warnings, the minibus owners started parking their vehicles in other places and the Public Order Department, along with the police, started punishing such violators. Violations of the rules of handling and cleanliness are punishable by a fine from 20 to 140 EUR, and for repeated violations from 140 to 600 EUR.
