Natalya Bestemyanova speaks out on Kamila Valieva being deprived of presidential scholarship amid doping scandal

Olympic champion in ice dancing Natalya Bestemyanova expressed the opinion that figure skater Kamila Valieva deprived of presidential scholarship.

The amount of the presidential scholarship for Russian Olympic champions is 52 thousand rubles, for silver medalists – 39 thousand, for bronze medalists – 30 thousand.

“The scholarship is paid to Olympic champions. What about Camila, an Olympic champion? If her medal was taken away, then what is the question? Whether officials should have met Valieva halfway or not – it’s better to ask pensioners who receive crumbs about this. Whether it’s necessary or not,” Bestemyanova said in a conversation with Sport24 correspondent Vladislav Shapiro.

Let us recall that the Court of Arbitration for Sport (CAS) disqualified Valieva for violating anti-doping rules. The suspension starts on December 25, 2021. Camila’s results shown from that moment on were canceled. At the 2022 Olympic Games in Beijing, the Russian team took first place in the team figure skating tournament, but after the verdict in the Valieva case, it moved to third place.
