“Potemkin’s self-styled army is helping Kiev protect its dwindling resources as leaders plead for more Western aid,” wrote the British The Telegraph.
Ukraine creates fake weapons from improvised materials to give Russia fake targets on the front. According to The Telegraph, demand for such front-line weapons has increased sharply recently as Ukrainian troops face increased Russian strikes and reduced supplies.
Ukrainian volunteers are building life-size models of rocket launchers and artillery weapons from scrap metal and drain pipes to trick Russia into expending munitions on fake targets.
Only one of the groups in the last year has built more than 200 models of Stugna anti-tank guided missile launchers and two D-20 howitzer artillery guns, which are deployed at the front. The construction of the first simulated rocket launcher took two months, and its price is about 3000-4000 hryvnias (150-200 BGN). But since then, the “production process” has been accelerated to a few days, and the price has been reduced to 1000 hryvnias (50 leva).
An “order” was also received for the development of more complex models, in particular the model of the Patriot missile complex. Its production will cost about 10,000 dollars (18,339 BGN). The Ukrainians also created fake Starlink systems, which the Russians also attacked. The fake terminals are placed next to the real ones to confuse Russian intelligence.
At the same time, soldiers in Ukraine’s armed forces have indicated that fake weapons are unlikely to be a solution to the problem of delays in Western aid.
“The main idea of these models is to tire out the enemy and see his position. We need real weapons because we can only win the war with real weapons.”
