French automaker Renault plans to invest 300 million euros, $323.25 million, in its factory in Sandoville, northern France, to manufacture a new generation of electric vans starting in 2026, under the Flexis SAS joint venture.
The company said in a statement that it will add 550 employees to its team of 1,850 employees at the factory over the next four years.
The van project, specially designed to deliver parcels, is part of the business plan of the electric vehicle unit of Renault Flexis, a joint venture between it and the Swedish company Volvo and the French group CMA CGM.
Renault said that in March, it and Volvo obtained the necessary regulatory approval to officially launch the joint project, and the CMA CGM Group also confirmed its interest in investing up to 120 million euros.
