Details: On Friday, March 29, the Lithuanian Foreign Ministry summoned Charge d’Affaires of Belarus Yaroslav Khmyl, who was handed a note of protest in connection with Lukashenko’s threats against Lithuania.

The Foreign Ministry noted that Lukashenko groundlessly accuses Lithuania of “creating a military threat” and calls on the Belarusian army to prepare for confrontation with the Baltic countries and Poland.

“The Lithuanian Foreign Ministry notes that such statements can be regarded as a further escalation of the aggressive foreign policy of the Belarusian authorities, and they are completely unacceptable… The Foreign Ministry demands that Belarus immediately provide official explanations for this statement by Lukashenko, and once again reminds that Lithuania will take all possible measures to ensure their security, sovereignty and territorial integrity,” Vilnius said.

Let us recall that this week, during a trip to the location of the Belarusian military near the western border, Lukashenko discussed potential surgery in the so-called Suwalki corridor – a narrow isthmus from the territory of Poland and Lithuania, separating Belarus from the Kaliningrad region of the Russian Federation, and frightened with its readiness “respond decisively to provocations”.
