Ukrainian energy facilities were attacked with Russian rockets and drones on the night of Good Friday, according to authorities in the country.
In connection with the attacks, the Polish army wrote the following at 03.39:
– Polish and allied aircraft operate in Polish airspace. Intense long-range air activity has been observed from Russia, related to missile attacks on Ukrainian territory. All necessary procedures to ensure the safety of Polish airspace have been implemented.
According to The daily newspaper warplanes belonging to Nato were involved.
The attacks were aimed at both heating and hydropower plants, according to the grid operator Ukrenergo.
– During the night, the Russians again attacked energy facilities in a massive and complex attack. Heating and hydropower plants in the central and western regions were damaged, writes Ukrenergo on Telegram.
Furthermore, it is pointed out that several emergency shutdowns were carried out in the Dnipropetrovsk region in the south-east of the country.
The Ukrainian defense claims that Russia sent 60 drones, and that 58 of these were shot down, and that 26 of 39 missiles were also intercepted.
– The enemy carried out a powerful rocket and air attack against the fuel and energy sector in Ukraine. They used several types of rockets and drones, says an unnamed commander according to Reuters.
Multiple regions
DTEK, Ukraine’s largest private electricity company, reports attacks on three thermal power plants.
– The equipment was badly damaged. After the attack ended, power technicians began repairing the damage, reports DTEK on Telegram.
Regional authorities report Russian attacks against infrastructure in the Kamjanske district near the city of Dnipro. At least one person is reported injured.
Ukraine’s energy minister, Herman Halushchenko, says that power plants in the regions of Dnipropetrovsk, Poltava and Cherkasy were attacked with drones and rockets on Friday morning.
Repeated attacks
On Friday, Ukrainian TV also reported explosions in the regions of Ivano-Frankivsk and Khmelnytskyi, and in Dnipro after Russian cruise missiles were observed.
Russia has carried out several large-scale attacks against the Ukrainian power grid during the war, the largest of which last Friday caused extensive damage to facilities for generating and transporting electricity.
As a result, Ukraine has had to stop electricity exports and has become dependent on imports. Last winter, Russia directed numerous and large-scale attacks against the Ukrainian power grid. Millions of Ukrainians were temporarily left completely or partially without access to electricity.
