McLaren seems to be changing their future design philosophy for their cars as they now have outlined five core principles that they aim to achieve with the next generation of cars. The principles are taken from the company’s 60-year history, and include, among other things, that the cars should look Epic, Athletic, Functional, Focused and Intelligent.
In terms of what each of these principles actually means, Epic is about creating sensory excitement, Athletic is about creating an extraordinary look, Functional is about performance through design, Focused is about ensuring the cars have a super light and aerodynamic construction, and Intelligent is about get the most performance possible.
McLaren has also teased a bit with some early concept images, while explaining that the inspiration for these cars comes from their successful Formula 1 cars like the MP4/4 and even other supercars like the McLaren F1 and 750S. The automaker even confirms that the cockpit of future cars will not feel claustrophobic or compromised, and that the goal is to deliver spacious and comfortable elements with a “horizon-like view ahead.”
