Xabi Alonso appears to be staying at Bayer Leverkusen longer. The 42-year-old coach has been linked to both Bayern Munich and Liverpool, but those clubs seem to be giving up the battle for his signature – at least for next season.

In England writes, among other things The Times that Liverpool sees their hopes for Alonso fading. ‘He is unlikely to be on Liverpool’s shortlist to replace Jurgen Klopp as the club do not believe he will be available this summer.’ According to the newspaper, this means that Ruben Amorim of Sporting Lisbon and Roberto de Zerbi of Brighton and Hove Albion are now the remaining candidates for the vacancy at Anfield. Fabrizio Romano also confirms this.
In Germany, Uli Hoeness also responded to the possible arrival of Alonso to Bayern. That seems to be an impossible task, the former chairman tells BR24. “‘We’ll see what’s possible this year. It’s going to be very difficult, not to say probably impossible.”

According to Hoeness, Alonso will stay at Bayer Leverkusen. “As I got to know him, I can imagine that he is more inclined to continue because he does not want to leave the project behind like that. He works at a club that is on its way to becoming champions of Germany. If If he had been successful for two or three more years, it would probably have been easier to get him out of there.”
