Jakarta, CNBC Indonesia – Coordinating Minister for Economic Affairs Airlangga Hartarto ordered the Indonesian palm oil ‘defense system’ to be completed within 3 months. The system must be completed before the European Union’s anti-deforestation regulations (EUDR) come into force in 2025.
“Within 3 months, if possible, we can prepare it so that it can be announced so that it can be an echo for the UEDR,” said Airlangga at the National Coordination Meeting for the Implementation of the Presidential Instruction on the National Action Plan for Sustainable Palm Oil Plantations, in Jakarta, Thursday (28/3/2024).
He said the system includes tracking aspects regarding palm oil plantation products in Indonesia. In this way, he said, Indonesian palm oil products could enter the European Union because they were guaranteed not to be related to deforestation.
“This will be defense mechanism “we are against attacks from the European Union,” he said.

According to Airlangga, this system will involve cross-ministries and agencies. These include the Ministry of Agriculture, Geospatial Information Agency, Ministry of Agrarian Affairs and Spatial Planning. The Ministry of Environment and Forestry and the Palm Oil Plantation Fund Management Agency also helped.
He said that the Geospatial Information Agency, the Ministry of ATR, and the Ministry of Environment and Forestry would prepare data regarding palm oil. The Ministry of Agriculture and BPDPKS will prepare the regulations.
“This system will help traceability for our palm oil farmers,” he said.
He hopes that the rules and system will be completed this year. In this way, he said, the government can immediately announce that Indonesian palm oil is free from deforestation.
“This is important so that internationally we are no longer seen negatively,” he said.
