Change what you don’t see
Update forAudi Q4 e-tronthe compact electric SUV from the German company born in 2021. The bodywork remains unchanged, modern and elegant, both in the variant with the square roof of the test and in the “coupé” version (which costs 2,000 euros more). Change but under the skin, with increases in terms of performance e di autonomy. The basis is the proven MEB electric platform of the Volkswagen group, shared with other “cousin” models, such as the ID.3 and ID.4 and the Skoda Enyaq. All variants can count on 77 kWh battery net (82 nominal): as before, but changes to the chemistry of the cells have made it possible to gain a few more kilometers of autonomy (up to 19); in the test car, with rear wheel drive, the official average value goes from 528 to 545 km. But the most obvious change concerns the engine power: at the base of the range there is now this 45 e-tron, with 286 CV instead of 204. Performance improves accordingly: for the company, the time needed to sprint from 0 to 100 km/h drops by 1.8 seconds (now 6.7 are enough) and the declared maximum speed increases by 20 km/h. h (at 180).
More dynamic
L’Audi Q4 e-tron it takes off decisively: the 82 extra horses make themselves noticed. The greater power is accompanied by neutral behavior when cornering and good handling: thanks also to the refined calibration of the suspensions, which can have electronically controlled adaptive shock absorbers (1,670 euros), and there are updates to the steering, now more direct. Excellentnoise isolation exterior: only a slight rolling noise can be heard, while aerodynamic noises are practically absent even at motorway speeds. If the braking is generally good and that regenerative it can be modulated with the paddles on the steering wheel, but the one-pedal function is missing, a feature present on many electric cars which allows you to manage the speed (until stopping) only by modulating the pressure on the accelerator, without acting on the brake pedal. In our first contact with the updated Q4 we traveled about 190 km – between cities, hilly roads and motorways – without paying too much attention to energy saving and with rather low external temperatures. Having left with 96% of battery, we arrived at our destination with still 49% of charge remaining, sufficient, according to the on-board computer, to continue our journey for another 210 km. In practice, beyond 400 “real” km of autonomy: not bad.
The finishes are ok
As mentioned, on an aesthetic level theAudi Q4 e-tron it keeps its sleek and muscular style intact, with short overhangs and a wheelbase of 276 cm. There is the large grille like on the other models of the brand, but in this case it is completely closed and has a purely aesthetic function. The air vents are only at the bottom of the bumper. The interior is very generous in space: on the sofa, taller people can travel comfortably; even in three, given the lack of the transmission tunnel. There driving position it is very customizable; the electrical adjustments are in a 1,070 euro package. The slightly raised position is dominant and guarantees good visibility, only slightly penalized by the thickness of the windshield pillars. The 10.3-inch digital instrument panel offers various interfaces and the 11.6-inch central screen is very responsive. From good level i materials they assemblies, with the only flaw in the lower part of the doors, where the hard plastic used for the pockets is not the best. The trunk it has a notable capacity (520 liters with the sofa in position) and a regular shape; charging cables can be stored in the double bottom. The threshold, however, is very high: with 89 cm from the ground, loading is tiring.
It reaches 340 horsepower
The biggest changes concern the a version rear-wheel Drive that we drove, but there are improvements for the others too. L’Audi Q4 e-tron 45 with all-wheel drive (with two engines, one in front and one in the rear) gains 21 HP and 15 km of autonomy, reaching 286 HP and 525 km respectively (for the SUV with the square roof). The 55, available only 4×4, goes from 299 to 340 HP (+41 HP), with 521 km of official average mileage (an improvement of 14 km). In the four-wheel drive variants, the charging power also increases by 40 kW, which now reaches 175 kW in direct current. Under the most favorable conditions, according to the house, 10-80% require 28 minutes or to store enough energy to travel 175 km.
The battery gets ready
Precisely at the moment of charging, a new feature introduced on all versions comes in handy: the battery preconditioning, which works together with the navigator. When you head towards a “fast” charging station, the system brings the “battery” to the ideal temperature (around 30 °C), minimizing the parking times and, at the same time, the stress for the “battery”. A network made up of more than 650,000 small columns compatible in Europe, of which 42,000 in Italy, allows the electric SUV to be recognized and start recharging with energy without the need for applications on the phone or electronic cards: just connect the cable. A nice convenience.
35 is coming
L’ Audi Q4 e-tron updated and can already be ordered. A second two-wheel drive version, called 35, will also arrive by the summer, with a 55 kWh battery and 170 HP rear engine; we estimate 50,000 euros as the starting price. For now, however, the 45 is the least expensive: it starts at 57,800 euros. As standard there are 19-inch alloy wheels, a motorized tailgate, LED headlights (1,360 euros are needed for LED matrix ones), heated front seats and 10.25-inch digital instruments. There Business Advanced of our test costs 61.800 euro: in addition to a more aggressive aesthetic, it adds features such as sports seats and a driving assistance package with also adaptive cruise control, lane departure warning and automatic parking system. Intermediate setup also available Business (from 59,800 euros), while at the top there is the S line edition: 63.800 euro.
