It is generally said that one should eat fish twice a week. The Czechs have not been able to do this for a long time. Compared to the pan-European average, we are very far behind. According to the latest data from the statistical office, the annual consumption is 5.6 kilograms per person. This corresponds to fifteen grams per day. The Lidl chain asked its customers why we eat so little fish a week ago.
The European Food Safety Authority recommends eat at least 150-300 grams of fish per week. Although carp is the most commonly available fish in the Czech Republic, Czechs mainly consume salmon, which is also the most popular fish.

Fish is important for humans mainly due to the high content of proteins, vitamins, iodine and fish oil, which is rich in omega-3 fatty acids.
Lidl on your Facebook promoted a multi-functional kitchen robot that is supposed to help with the preparation of fish. In that context, he asked why they eat so few fish. He only gave two options to choose from. “I don’t like them” and “I don’t know how to prepare them”.
However, according to hundreds of comments, people would still need variant C.
Frozen fish is not fresh fish
Almost no one was interested in the food processor or the options offered. The debate was mainly about prices and available products.
“When I buy chilled fish, I expect that it has been chilled the whole time, not that it was frozen at sea and thawed in the store. The information is in such small print on the packaging that one overlooks it many times and then wonders that there is tasteless mud in the pan,” Lucie wrote. Her answer caught the attention of many others who did not know about the mentioned practice.

PrahaIN.cz reported on the problem last year in February, when we came across salmon that was caught in Norway, packed in Poland and then sold as fresh fish in the Czech Republic. It should be used within five days.
The largest number of discussants mentioned the high price of fish. It was repeated several times that they would easily eat fish every day if it weren’t so expensive.
Fish versus chicken
“I can only afford them once a month at most,” mentioned Bohumila. “Because a pig is cheaper,” replied another. “Most people will say they are expensive,” confirmed another. “Fearfully expensive, and even though they are on sale, the price is still high. We like fish a lot, sometimes I buy trout and salmon, but twice a year,” said another.

“It is financially prohibitive for a family of four to five to buy quality fish,” concluded another.
Lidl currently offers several types of fish on sale. Their price greatly exceeds the price of other types of meat.
For example, a kilogram of pikeperch costs 359 crowns instead of the original 485. A kilogram of cod costs 249 crowns, and seasoned salmon costs 519.50 per kilogram at a “super price”.
