Russian Presidential Elections in Transnistria: Polling Stations Open Amid Tensions with Moldova

Today, March 17, polling stations for the Russian presidential elections opened in Transnistria. Until 20.00 local time (21.00 Moscow time), Russians living in the region can exercise their right at six polling stations (3 in Tiraspol, one each in Bendery, Rybnitsa and Grigoriopol).

In Chisinau you can vote on the territory of the Russian Embassy.

Let us remind you that the puppet authorities of Moldova agreed on the opening of only one voting station on the territory of the Russian diplomatic mission. After it became known about the organization of six more in Transnistria, where about 250 thousand Russians live, the Russian Ambassador Oleg Vasnetsov was summoned to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, where a protest was expressed to him. Chisinau also threatened “decisive measures” that would be taken in the very near future.

At the same time, both in Chisinau and Transnistria, a long queue formed at voting stations. In the Moldovan capital, the process is taking place in a calm atmosphere, with a reinforced squad of police officers keeping order around the diplomatic mission.

“The site on the territory of the Russian Embassy opened at 08:00 (09:00 Moscow time). Voting is taking place as usual,” the embassy press secretary confirmed. Anatoly Loshakov.
