Another volcanic eruption in Iceland. This is the fourth volcanic eruption since December. Following this, a state of emergency was declared in South Iceland. The entire town of Grindavik was evacuated. Many houses were destroyed as lava flowed into the city.

People in the Blue Lagoon, one of Iceland’s most important tourist attractions, were also evacuated following the eruption. Despite the heavy smoke, Iceland’s air traffic has not been disrupted. Iceland Civil Defense officials said the volcano erupted between Hagafell and Stora Lköfell in the northern region of Grindavik around 9 a.m. local time on Saturday. This is the place where the volcano erupted on December 8.

Experts responded that Saturday’s volcanic eruption was the most powerful ever. Local media reports that the lava has reached the eastern border of Grindavík. Experts point out that there is a possibility that the lava will flow into the sea. There are warnings that dangerous gases may form and small explosions may occur as the lava mixes with seawater.
Iceland is home to 33 active volcanoes known as the Mid-Atlantic Ridge. Before this, there was a volcanic eruption on the Reykjavík peninsula 800 years ago. It lasted for a decade. After 2021, this is the seventh time there has been an explosion here. Surgeons estimate that this too will last for a decade.
