Man Seriously Injured in New York Subway Shooting: National Guard Deployed for Security

A man was seriously injured in the head in another shooting on the New York subwayaccording to what the authorities reported, after the event that occurred days after the National Guard was deployed to guard the city’s train stations.

Officials noted in a press conference that lThe injured victim, 36 years old, entered through the emergency door of the subway, evading paying the fare, and did so carrying a firearmaccording to a video from security cameras.

Identified as Dajuan Robinson was shot with his own gun, which was taken from him by another individual with whom he was arguing in the train car.

The perpetrator, Younece Obuad32 years old, He was arrested, but the Brooklyn Prosecutor’s Office, which is investigating the event, said it will not file criminal charges against him because he appeared to act in self-defense..

“Yesterday’s shooting inside a crowded subway car was shocking and deeply disturbing,” Prosecutor’s Office spokesman Oren Yaniv told the media.

“The investigation into this tragic incident is ongoing, but at this time, evidence of self-defense prevents us from pursuing criminal charges” against the shooter, he added.

In addition, The police are searching for a woman, who was apparently with the arrested subject and is involved in the incidentwhich happened before 5:00 p.m. on Thursday, right during “peak” hours on the New York subway.

The New York Police Department (NYPD) said Obuad was in the car that Robinson entered with his gun, which numerous people witnessed that he was aggressive, provoking the other person and also brandished a knife.

A third subject tried to stop the fight, after which Robinson took out the gun that was taken from him by Obuad, who pulled the trigger four times. as the train was arriving at the Hoyt-Schermerhorn station in Brooklyn, unleashing chaos among travelers.

Robinson was shot twice on the right side of the face, including through the eye, once in the neck and once in the chest.in addition to being stabbed twice in the back by the woman who was with Obuad.

“We need to look at new technology that we can implement here in the transit system to help keep New Yorkers safe,” Deputy Chief of Police Operations Kaz Daughtry said at a press conference.

The violent events in the New York subway led the governor of New York, Kathy Hochul, to order the deployment of the National Guard to patrol the stations in the company of the local police, who are already in the subway by decision of Mayor Eric Adams.

“Traffic crimes account for 2% of crimes in New York City, but they have a huge disproportionate impact on people’s sense of safety because they are in an environment where they cannot move as easily,” said the executive director of the Metropolitan Transportation Authority (MTA), Janno Lieber, in another conference.
