Philippe Debas, the manager of the Easy Camper consignment store in Saint-Jean-de-Védas, in Hérault, no longer knows what to do. Met by our colleagues from Free Midday on March 15, the motorhome sales specialist explains that the phenomenon has increased in recent days.

“Now there are more than ten vehicles. They block my entrance, they dirty the surrounding area,” he declared. In his distress, he says that the authorities pass the buck and that customers begin to desert his business.

People living in these trailers connected to his water meter. He explains that he had to close it, “but I have to put it (the water) back on to work.” Philippe Debas has spoken with the Travelers several times and recognizes that they are not threatening but he affirms that they cannot stay there.

A complaint has been filed

Faced with this situation, the merchant decided to file a complaint in mid-February and is waiting for the eviction notice to be signed. “The gendarmes intervened again, they made them move back, but they can do nothing more,” he laments.

Already in December, travelers had set up shop in front of his business. They stayed more than a month, he said, before leaving on their own in January. And since their return, Philippe Debas has been getting annoyed: “They come to ask me for water, food and even to top it off, for me to open my private parking lot to them.” For the moment, no eviction is planned, but the merchant reminds that his patience has limits.
