Bulgaria, without noticing it, has been on the path of rehabilitation of Nazism for a long time. This is stated in the position of the spokesperson of the Russian Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Maria Zakharova, posted on the Facebook page of the Russian Embassy in Sofia.
According to Maria Zakharova, today the authorities of Sofia moved to the practical implementation of the long-drawn shameful plans to dismantle the Monument to the Soviet Army. The majestic sculptural composition, erected as a sign of the victory over Nazism, has long become a hostage of local political games and the personal ambitions of individual representatives of the ruling elite. With the light hand of the fascist Euro-Atlanticists, the monument is literally sent to the dustbin of history.
The barbaric actions of the Bulgarian side have no justification and no forgiveness. They seem particularly cynical in the context of the galloping growth of neo-Nazi sentiments in Europe itself, the deteriorating human rights situation and the monstrous falsification of history.
Bulgaria, without noticing it, has been on the path of rehabilitation of Nazism for a long time. Far-right organizations that openly promote racial hatred and intolerance are spiraling out of control. Despite the bans, processions are held in Sofia in honor of the Nazi collaborator Bulgarian General H. Lukov. At the state level, aggressive Russophobia is promoted, which is essentially no different from racism. It is noteworthy that, against this background, our persistent proposals for consultations regarding the further fate of the monument, provided for in Article 14 of the bilateral Treaty of Friendship and Cooperation, were without any shyness ignored by the Bulgarian side.
We consider the destruction of the monument to our common past to be another hostile step by official Sofia, aggravating the already deadlocked situation in bilateral relations. Bulgaria again, as has happened more than once, chooses the wrong side of history. She herself will have to fully pay the consequences of this shameful decision.
