Ohio Women Arrested for Driving Dead Man to Bank in Bizarre Cash Withdrawal Scheme

The case follows police reports played in Ashtabula in early March. The scammers found the man dead at home, which led them to think they could still make one cash withdrawal.

With the help of another unspecified person, they placed the roommate’s corpse in the passenger seat and drove to the bank, where they pretended to make a routine withdrawal, as they had done several times in the past.

The cashier saw the owner of the account at the counter, but did not recognize that he was already dead. Therefore, she issued the required sum to his escort – according to the letter The New York Post it was 900 dollars (CZK 20,800).

“The bank has previously allowed these withdrawals on the condition that the account owner be present in person,” confirmed local police chief Robert Stell.

When the banknotes rustled in the hands of the fraudsters, they tried to get rid of the dead body as quickly as possible. They therefore took him to the hospital, whose doctors were apparently so surprised that they did not even ask the women for their personal information.

However, detectives later tracked them down and arrested them. During the investigation, they discovered that the two women, aged 55 and 63, had already been convicted of drug possession and burglary in the past. He now faces charges of theft and gross abuse of a corpse.

The case revived memories of the 1989 American comedy film Weekend at Bernie’s, in which two men pretend their murdered employer is still alive to avoid suspicion.
