As number six in the Eredivisie, NEC will go to Stadion Galgenwaard this weekend for the meeting with FC Utrecht. Earlier this season, the Nijmegen team defeated Sunday’s opponent 3-0, but according to coach Rogier Meijer, that does not guarantee a fourth victory in a row.
“It’s going to be a difficult match. With Ron Jans as trainer, FC Utrecht has made good progress. You know it will be difficult there, but we certainly have a chance with the way we have been playing lately,” says Meijer, who has to make do without playmaker Tjaronn Chery. “Sunday is too short a day for him. Fortunately, it is not a serious injury, we expect him back after the international break.”
Rober González is the man in form at NEC. The 23-year-old Spaniard has scored three goals in his last four Eredivisie matches and is feeling good: “I am happy that I have been getting a lot of playing minutes lately. I worked hard for that. It doesn’t matter to me what position I play in, that’s up to the coach. I have to make sure I help the team with my work and goals.”
