Princess Anne Royal broke protocol with Queen Camilla recently at a Commonwealth Day service.
Relatives King Charles III, who was absent from the event due to illness, was greeted by his wife, Queen Camilla, who kissed her on the cheeks and curtsied. But not all.
The Duchess of Edinburgh Sophie, upon entering Westminster Abbey, demonstrated all the rules of protocol, greeting Camilla, who is higher than her in title, and curtseying to her. But the king’s sister, Princess Anna, decided not to curtsey to the queen, but simply kissed her on the cheek. Camilla also kindly greeted Anna.

According to the rules of royal protocol, anyone holding the title of His Royal Highness must bow to the monarch and his consort. However, sometimes family members break this rule and, indeed, do not attach as much importance to curtsies as they did during the reign of Queen Elizabeth II.
