The results of the study on the indices of high vulnerability do not surprise those responsible at the Alphare organization and at the Beauce-Etchemin School Service Center (CSSBE).

“This phenomenon exists in Beauce and is not new. One in two people in Quebec experience significant challenges in reading and writing. The challenges are more stressful during a job loss or professional transition. Even with a stable job, he can suffer significant abuse in various aspects,” specifies the general director of Alphare, Annie Poulin.
She cites two examples: signing an employment contract and understanding a mortgage when purchasing a property. This is why Alphare, beyond French, also helps citizens with its training in calculation and technology.
“We must encourage lifelong learning for the dignity, well-being and autonomy of each person,” says Ms. Poulin.
The CSSBE relies heavily on professional training to offer better conditions to future workers. “We have to stop seeing this as a plan B. The recent accelerated training courses in construction are good examples,” says Marie-Josée Fecteau, director of the Professional Training, Adult and Business Education Department of the CSSBE.
For Yves Jacques, educational advisor at CIMIC, a professional studies diploma (DEP) will always remain an excellent way to earn a living. “The first layoffs in a factory are always the less qualified people. With a DEP, you can relocate anywhere and even start your own business,” he concludes.
