Michael Höllwarth, the former director of Graz Children’s Surgery, died on March 12, 2024 at the age of 81.

“Many things done – BIG things achieved: Michael Höllwarth will always be remembered in a special way,” says the club “Big ones protect little ones” the deceased. The Graz pediatric surgeon was also president of the association from 1993 to 2014. As president of the association, Univ. Prof. Dr. Michael Höllwarth and his management team were able to take many sustainable development steps. Numerous projects were developed that still have an impact today, including, for example, the child safety box and the bear castle – the accident prevention center.
Accident research has been significantly influenced
As a scientist and researcher, accident research was also very important to Michael Höllwarth. In total, Höllwarth was loyal to accident prevention for more than 40 years and had a significant impact on the accident prevention landscape in Austria. “One can and must recognize at this point that the decline in fatal child accidents, as well as the reduction in the number of accidents among children in general, also bears the signature of Michael Höllwarth in Austria,” says the “Big protect little ones” association.
