Oscar-winning designers: the clothes that bring good luck are Italian

Many people have theirs special brings good luck: a small object to keep in your pocket, a jewel, a pair of special socks. Accessories in which desires and hopes are placed. According to research, there are even lucky clothes, that is, garments that, if worn, attract good luck. Or at least that’s how it seems if you analyze them all the dresses seen at the Oscar ceremony since the first edition in 1929: this is what a London textile company, Dalston Mill Fabrics, did by reviewing the garments worn by the winners of the award as Best Leading Actress e Best Supporting Actress. From their investigation, there appears to be a common denominator between the award-winning stars and their clothing: specific colors and specific designers seem to bring good luck to those who wear them. Here are the most recurring shades and maisons among the actresses who win the Oscar.

Colors bring good luck

The research highlighted how the nero is the luckiest color: 32% of the actresses who won the statuette wore the color of the night. From Cher to Frances McDormand, from Barbara Streisand to Julia Roberts, total black turns out to be the trump card when it comes to the palette. But there is also another shade that seems particularly lucky: theoro. The bright color chosen by Emma Stone in 2017 and Meryl Streep in 2012 returns in 20% of cases, followed in turn by bianco which is found in 12% of the dresses worn to receive the Oscar (among the examples, Audrey Hepburn in 1954, who had Givenchy re-adapt an item worn in the film Roman holidays). Blue and green also enter the top five.

The designers who make you win

There are also some stylists who seem to be more easily associated with winning. The most popular are Giorgio Armani e Valentino, which to date have each dressed 7% of the award-winning actresses. In particular, the 92nd edition saw both one victorious Best Actressor Renée Zellweger (in Armani Privé) who is one Best Supporting Actress, or Laura Dern, in Giorgio Armani. The aforementioned Frances McDormand won twice in Valentino, while Cate Blanchett collected her first statuette wearing a creation from the same Italian fashion house. Four other brands are jointly awarded the title of ‘lucky designer‘: we are talking about Saint Laurent, Chanel, Dior and Gucci, chosen respectively by 3% of the awarded actresses.
