Israeli Parliament gives green light to ‘supplementary war budget’ – 2024-03-15 10:00:10

The Knesset, the Israeli Parliament, approved a supplementary budget for 2024 on Wednesday, which foresees a large increase in public spending to finance military operations in Gaza.

The law on public finances was adopted by the votes 62 members of the Knesset. They voted down 55who voted against him.

“Due to war-related expenses the spending limit increases by 70.4 billion shekels (17.6 billion euros), or against 14,55% compared to the one (i.e. the budget) approved in May 2023,” the Israeli parliament explained.

Through X, Finance Minister Bezalel Smotrich, a baron of the extreme right, praised the “war budget”. “Together we will win,” he assured.

The Knesset had already approved in December a supplementary budget for 2023, which provided for new credits for Israeli businesses.
