NSC MP Caspar Veldkamp would like to see the Dutch cabinet convince Germany to supply so-called Taurus cruise missiles to Ukraine, he said in the NPO Radio 1 program of Sven op 1.
“The bottom line is that the British and French supplied long-range cruise missiles to Ukraine. This means that Ukraine, which itself has a very small navy, has managed to drive the Russians out of a large part of the Black Sea. This makes it easier for ships carrying grain to leave the port of Odessa to export grain to the rest of the world,” says Veldkamp.

Not so keen
The French and British missiles will run out at the end of the summer. The focus now shifts to Germany, which has about four hundred weapons of the same type. However, Germany is not yet keen on supplying the Taurus missiles. As far as Veldkamp is concerned, the cabinet must do everything it can to convince Germany. The MP states that the Netherlands can take over the weapons from the Germans if necessary, if that removes the doubts.
Not called yet
Today, Veldkamp has been in Parliament as a foreign spokesperson for exactly 100 days. For the time being, he has not been asked for a ministerial position in Foreign Affairs or Foreign Trade and Development Affairs. “I haven’t received a call yet. Let’s just say. During the thawing of the Cold War, foreign spokesperson had a great deal of authority in the House of Representatives. The bar is high to do this well now.”
