Romilde van Dongen (41) is a reporter at RTL Boulevard and likes to write about love, dating and singles. She enjoys dating programs on television and makes no secret of her opinion. This season she is ready for an afterword about the yes words in ‘Married at First Sight’.
“If I had known everything in advance I would have said no at the altar”
The differences between the couples Married at First Sight seem to be getting bigger and bigger. While the four J’s (Jerney and Jeffrey & Jeppe and Jantine) grow closer to each other, the cracks between Kim and David, Bastiaan and Suzanne and Erik and Gerben become bigger and bigger. Suzanne thinks that living together means sleeping at home, Kim has more fun with her mother-in-law than with David and if Erik says the word calm again, I throw my TV out the window. Calm? Feel free to call it slow! I cuddle with my friends even more than Erik cuddles with Gerben. No, I have little hope for these two men.
Kim’s mother-in-law loves having Kim at home. “It’s like she’s been here for years.” They have the most fun while preparing the snacks. David is a bit left out. Ouch. Still, David scores points when he shares his knowledge about beer during the beer tasting. After they bake a cake blindfolded, where I really see them having a lot of fun, David finally picks up his guitar. As far as I’m concerned, his secret weapon! Kim swoons. But that harmonica is a little less sexy. David does feel something for Kim: “I can’t quite place what it is now, but it is still very nice when she is with me.” But no matter how nice and cozy Kim finds it all with David and his mother, ‘the spark is just not there yet’ for her. Is it too early to say that I don’t think that spark will happen between Kim and David?
Dirk and Anneke are in contact again and that is very nice, they say. Um, sorry? The experts are as surprised as I am, because doesn’t Dirk have too many expectations? Anneke is clear: “That does not mean that this can become a relationship, on the contrary.” But Dirk remains hopeful: “There were butterflies.” If I were Dirk I would never want to see Anneke again. But hey, you know for yourself.
Update: Dirk himself has now responded to the images.
Gerben and Erik make a shopping list for dinner, or well, Erik dictates. Gerben has promised to cook, so Erik lies on the couch and Gerben does the shopping. The cooking itself is not very different. “Then you can now turn on the gas stove, then put this in the pan,” Erik orders. Unbelievable, Gerben is not a toddler, is he? There is still no hugging or kissing. “It’s nice to continue this way quietly,” says Erik, but Gerben’s patience is starting to run out. “It’s a love experiment, not a boyfriend experiment,” he tells expert Eveline. But Erik is not the ‘get it right on top’ type. Eveline warns them: “If you are both careful, you will not go beyond what is friendly and fun.” She thinks they should take a step forward in this regard. Gerben is very curious about what Erik will do with that advice. “I take all the tips with me, some things are useful and some things are not,” says Erik. I have no idea what Erik just said, but I don’t think he’s going to do anything with Eveline’s advice. Unfortunately.
Suzanne is going to live with Bastiaan in The Hague, but she is completely fed up with it. After weeks, she finally throws out the high word: “I don’t feel the spark, just not, so to speak.” It takes too much energy for her to keep the door open. “I understand what you’re saying,” Bastiaan responds. For his part, he has not yet completely closed the door: “I would like to see if we can change something about the situation, I don’t want to give up yet.” What a perseverer, that Bastiaan. After this difficult conversation, they have a delicious meal with his friends in the hotel where Bastiaan worked. I can not believe my eyes. Suzanne goes all out about her position in her marriage to her husband. She goes on and on about how she normally feels the spark right away, and that she hopes it will come now. As if the cork has come off the bottle and she can finally reveal what she has kept secret for weeks. Bastiaan looks a bit disappointed. To top it all off, Suzanne is also sleeping at home tonight. I don’t think that’s living together, but okay. And Bastiaan? He just swallows everything again.
Malou and Sarath say goodbye to each other during the final conversation. Malou doesn’t even look at Sarath when she enters. Oh, oh, oh. Malou starts with her letter, I expect it will not be pleasant again. “I didn’t feel the attraction, at all moodswings you have decided,” she begins. “If I had known everything in advance, I would have said no at the altar.” So, you will have to be told! And Sarath swallows everything again. He even thanks her for the clarity. What a Sarath has the ability to take things, I mean. Carlo sees it too: “What a tough reaction, right?” “Oh, but we don’t hate each other either,” Malou clarifies. Oh, right? It looks like this otherwise. Then comes expert Anne again with a useless observation, that things are so sizzling between them and that they solve it nicely. Gosh. I think we are just seeing a completely failed match here that has made each other’s lives miserable for a few months. And that’s where the rings go the bowl. Couple number two is divorced. How many more to come?
