Yamil Bukele highlights the work and contribution of women in sports – – 2024-03-14 03:13:12

The ad honorem president of the National Sports Institute of El Salvador (INDES), Yamil Bukele, highlighted the work and contribution of women in the sports field during his message at the Women and Sports Day 2024.

For the second consecutive year, the activity was organized by the Women and Sports Commission of the Olympic Committee of El Salvador (COES) within the framework of the commemoration of International Women’s Day, which is celebrated every March 8.

“Without a doubt, I consider that you women play a fundamental role in the lives of all men and in the life of sports in El Salvador. “Always when I have the opportunity I mention that sports in El Salvador, today, is what it is thanks to women,” she said.

Bukele also reiterated his administration’s commitment to supporting initiatives to strengthen the participation of women in the different spheres of Salvadoran sports.

“We have managers, directors, federation presidents and women with enormous strength and we have athletes with the same qualities, but who are more disciplined, they are the hardest working, most committed and the best athletes,” he stressed.

For his part, the president of the COES, Armando Bruni, mentioned that the majority of changes in sport are promoted by women.

“It is an honor to be here commemorating this month that is so important for our society, we want to recognize the importance that women have in sports. Most changes in sport are promoted by women,” Bruni commented.

Claudia de Hernández, president of the Women and Sports Commission, explained that for this occasion a workshop was held in which representatives of the different federations participated as presidents, coaches or judges, in order to have diversity of opinions.

“This workshop seeks to hear the voice of women in the federations, so that the work plan makes sense and empower them through decision and reflection so that we can all learn from each other and continue building education and leadership,” said Claudia de Hernández. , who is also president of the Salvadoran Gymnastics Federation and part of the COES Executive Committee.

During the Women and Sports Day 2024, recognitions were given to different athletes, leaders and representatives of federations.

The first recognitions went to Claudia de Hernández, Carmen de Bruni, Rebeca de Bukele, Sandra de Uceda, Blanca Cubillas and Fanny Saravia for their support and work as members of the COES Women and Sports Commission.

“This year we want to work more in-depth with women to empower them in leadership and training in sports. For me it is a pride that they took me into account and what I can contribute. Thank the president of the Olympic Committee of El Salvador, Armando Bruni, for allowing women to integrate more into sport, in the same way, the president of INDES because they are being given the opportunity, not by quota, but by capacity, and I believe that women have a lot of strength in the leadership part,” commented Rebeca de Bukele, from the Women and Sports Commission of the COES.

“On my part, I grant this recognition to all those athletes who fight and represent the country, to those mothers who run with their sons and daughters athletes, and who always feel supported,” emphasized Rebeca de Bukele.

Among others awarded for their work were Melissa Alvarenga, member of the Women and Sports Commission of the World Fencing Federation; Dinora Acevedo, INDES sports development manager; Ana Patricia Ruiz de Roca, sports director of COES, among others.

Recognition was also given to athletes Mariana Salazar, the leading figure in Salvadoran downhill, and Adriana Escobar, rower.

Both athletes, beneficiaries of the Effort and Glory Program, are outside the country but sent a message through a video. In Mariana’s case, the award was received by her mother María Elena de Salazar.

“I want to invite you to continue empowering yourself in the way you are doing, to continue building that path for the well-being of your sporting discipline and, obviously, of El Salvador and sport in general. They know that they have the Olympic Committee and, of course, this government and the National Sports Institute,” added Yamil Bukele.

In the second edition, the Women and Sports Day 2024 consisted of a workshop in which the topic of education and leadership, among others, was addressed.

The first topic of the workshop was the education speech, which was developed by Diana Barrera, head of the Specialized Training Unit and interim head, ad honorem, of the Public Policy Monitoring Unit.

Another topic was the social aspect speech by Melissa Alvarenga, member of the Women and Sports Commission of the World Fencing Federation.

“I wish success in the Women’s Leadership Workshop in Sports, which will be carried out by Claudia de Hernández, who is the vice president of the COES and president of the Women and Sports Commission, together with Violeta Castaneda, project coordinator,” said Yamil Bukele.
