Commenting on this, China’s Ministry of Defense spokesman Zhang Xiaogang indicated that the Chinese coast guard handled the incident “professionally, reasonably, with restraint and in accordance with the law.” Chinese military authorities have expressed a strong protest to the Philippines and warned countries outside the region not to interfere in it and to end provocations that could lead to an escalation of the situation.
China will continue to implement all necessary measures to protect its sovereignty, territorial integrity and maritime rights and interests, the spokesman said.
