Trump: Promises to free convicts for Capitol Hill if elected – 2024-03-13 17:22:08

A new campaign promise was made by Donald Trump, who aspires to return to the White House and everything indicates that he will receive the anointing for the Republican nomination for the November 2024 elections.

The former president, who is expected to face off again with the current president, Joe Biden, promised that once he returns to power, in the event of his victory in the presidential elections, he will release the persons who have been imprisoned for their participation in the attack on the Capitol in 2021.

“My first steps as the next president will be to close the borders (…) and release the hostages of January 6 who were unjustly imprisoned!”, the former president wrote last night on the social networking site Truth Social, without giving more clarifications.

In the past, Trump has already addressed the issue of a potential return to the White House, pledging on a television show in December not to act like a dictator, except on his “first day.”

In January, during a campaign event in Iowa, the billionaire had called on Democratic President Joe Biden to “free the hostages”, a term he regularly uses to describe those imprisoned for their part in the attack on the temple of American democracy. .

The rioters, encouraged by Donald Trump and false allegations of election fraud, had on January 6, 2021 seized the Capitol to try to prevent the transfer of power to Joe Biden.

So far, 1,358 people have been charged, according to the latest Justice Department figures released last week. About 500 people have been sentenced to prison terms.

Trump is facing four criminal charges, two of which are for allegedly trying to sway the results of the 2020 presidential election in his favor after he lost to Joe Biden.

The former president is all but certain to win the Republican Party’s presidential nomination ahead of the presidential election after his last challenger, Nikki Haley, withdrew from the race last Wednesday.
